CHANNEL 6 SAYS SEPTA, UNION ‘GETTING CLOSE’ TO AN AGREEMENT
Jim Gardner, you’d better have good sources. SEPTA and its largest union, the TWU local 234, are “getting close” to a deal that would avert a strike, 6ABC reported Wednesday. Remember, on Sunday the union members voted to authorize that strike, but union chief Willie Brown told reporters any walk-off would not happen this week. Oh, and that riders of the El, the Broad Street Line and the city’s buses and trolleys would have some 24 hours notice. But it’s one source, so … color us intrigued, but not convinced.
NEW POLL KEEPS WOLF PRETTY FAR AHEAD OF CORBETT, DAYS BEFORE ELECTION
Tom Wolf, who’s kept a comfortable lead in the polls pretty much since the primary election, has no reason to sweat with a few short days to go until Election Day. A new poll from Franklin and Marshall College has incumbent Gov. Tom Corbett down anywhere from 13 points (likely voters) to 18 points (registered voters), which is kind of a steep hill to climb. And also? Sunday, President Barack Obama comes to town to campaign for Wolf, at Temple University’s Liacouras Center. Follow the story on Billy Penn, and we’ll send you updates on the race as they happen.
DAILY NEWS PROFILES ED BASSMASTER, THE PHILLY VAMPIRE (AMONG OTHER PRANKS)
He has more YouTube followers than Mayor Nutter, and Ed Bassmaster has earned them the hard way: By pranking folks in the City of Brotherly Love. How? He’s walked around Center City as a vampire. Or maybe a scarecrow that turns out to be a zombie. He’s a bona fide “internet star,” the DN reports. And it’s more than just a hobby: He’s taking his viral fame to the bank. “I’m making a very good living at it,” he said. “Can you become rich at it? Absolutely.”

BILLY PENN LIKES
FAST COMPANY ON DESIGNING EASTERN STATE PEN
The magazine’s Design Co. blog presents six keys to the Philadelphia institution’s success, bullet-pointing 6 keys to its “architecture of terror.” (Best quote: “My high school boyfriend ended up screaming in the fetal position.”)
COLBERT PICKS UP ON PENNSYLVANIA’S EATING PETS LAW: ‘CHICKEN POODLE SOUP’
The Comedy Central faux-Fox-News host gave his full Bill O’Reilly treatment in a segment poking fun at Pennsylvania’s recent half-baked effort to pass a law forbidding the consumption of household pets in the Commonwealth. There are plenty of laugh lines; we’re partial to the soup. And the “beagle with cream cheese.” It’s an issue we at Billy Penn looked at last week; we admit, Colbert was funnier.
