Philadelphia has had quite the year. We got a new mayor. And a soda tax. The state’s attorney general was tried and convicted for abuse of office. Fishtown had a dumpster pool. And then it didn’t. We made it through a SEPTA strike and one hell of an election. Our sports teams are terrible, but also great. In honor of, and in spite of, everything that happened in 2016, here’s what the Billy Penn staff is thankful for about Philly, mixed in with some thoughts from readers.
Every year after the coverage of the Thanksgiving Day parade wraps, NBC turns over its broadcast to the National Dog Show — which is hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia. In general, the National Dog Show is a high-stakes event, considered on par with Westminster, and results are kept under wraps until it airs at 12 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The action took place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa, and we have pics of all the cultured canines (and their equally cultured caretakers) doing the dog show thing.
Sometimes, apparently, the hot deals that come with Black Friday are not hot enough for everybody.
