IF PHILADELPHIA PUBLIC FIGURES WERE CHRISTMAS MOVIE CHARACTERS
Mayor-elect Jim Kenney is obviously Buddy the Elf (he just dressed up like him last week!), but what about Philly’s other biggest names in politics, entertainment and sports — which famous Christmas movie characters would they be? This is all just for holiday fun, but we made some matches that seem pretty darn perfect. Can you guess who Kathleen Kane is? What about Sam Hinkie? Check them out here.
CHRISTMAS: PHILLY CHINATOWN’S BUSIEST DAY OF THE YEAR
The American Jewish custom of eating Chinese on Christmas has been around for decades. The custom has even been discussed at the nation’s highest levels, when Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan surprised a senator with her answer to a question about where she’d spent Christmas. For the restaurant owners in Philadelphia Chinatown, the thought of staying closed never crosses their minds — it’s good business, but they’re also part of an endearing family tradition.
ON THE CALENDAR
Two days of festivities will culminate the week-long celebration of Kwanzaa at this Old City museum. Expect singing, storytelling, drumming, crafts and candle-lighting ceremonies. There's also a food drive, so bring a canned good along when you go.

What if the day after Christmas was a holiday in its own right? That's the case in a dozen or so countries around the world (UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, etc.). Boxing Day has nothing to do with fighting, but this is Philly, so Rocky will be on the TVs to go with specials on stout, fish 'n' chips and shepherd's pie.

The Brawl Behind the Wall is an annual showcase of some of the best boys and girls basketball in Philadelphia. Hosted by the nonprofit Athletic Development Group, the tournament also benefits anti-violence org Shoot Basketballs NOT People.
