WHY A BIPARTISAN CONGRESS HAS REASONS FOR CHAKA FATTAH TO QUIT NOW
Chaka Fattah will resign from Congress…eventually, anyway. He told congressional leaders yesterday that he’d leave the U.S. House on October 3, the day before his sentencing on more than 20 counts of corruption. But House Speaker Paul Ryan wants him out before then, and Democratic leaders wouldn’t mind that timeline. Fattah said he was willing to compromise in a second statement: “[W]e are working to identify an agreeable time frame which will relieve the House of any distractions in carrying out the people’s business.” Fattah is a Hillary Clinton superdelegate, not the best look for the party (or the city) when the national spotlight hits the DNC next month in Philly.
So the next questions are, how will this play out? And who will replace him if there’s a special election?
PHILLY BIKE POLICE WIND DOWN CENTER CITY PRESENCE
Since December, two groups have crowded into Dilworth Park around 15th and Chestnut streets on weekday afternoons: Teenagers and the police on bicycles who watch them. At times, the teens have numbered close to 500. Bike cops have come not only from Center City’s Ninth and 16th districts but throughout the city. At one point, nearly every bike officer in Philadelphia was in this area of Center City. But now, the bike cops are dissipating. Here’s why.

SIXERS 1ST ROUND PICKS SINCE 1985, RANKED
Heading into tonight’s NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers have three first round picks for the second time in the last 10 years. Ben Simmons is the guy atop the NBA Draft this year, but what the Sixers and new GM Bryan Colangelo do with the 24th and 26th picks will shape the future of the Sixers franchise for years to come. If history is any indication the answer to what the Sixers will do may be…all of the above. And yet, given the franchise’s history in the NBA Draft, none of those options seem all that inspiring. See for yourself.
THE PHILLY ATHLETE STREET NAMES MAP
Phillies legend (and Ultimate Athlete) Mike Schmidt doesn’t have a single street name in the city that bears his name. But Carson Wentz shares a name with two. Our City of Neighborhoods is forever geeking out over the origin of neighborhood names, the latest real estate trends and what Philly neighborhoods would be called if we named them today. So we went one step further and tried to correlate them with current and popular Philly athletes.
