FBI INVESTIGATING KENNEY CAMPAIGN AS PART OF JOHNNY DOC UNION PROBE
Word was the federal probe into IBEW Local 98 leader John Dougherty might have something to do with the his involvement in Mayor Kenney’s election — and now it’s official. Newsworks reported Friday that the FBI has subpoenaed documents from Kenney’s campaign fund. Kenney’s administration has not been targeted, the mayor later confirmed to the Inquirer, saying he has not retained a lawyer and hasn’t even seen the FBI request. Also last week, several other local officials’ homes were searched, including that of Zoning Board leader James Moylan.
JOHN OLIVER GIVES A BOOST TO PA CHARTER SCHOOL REFORM
In an segment on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the HBO host focused on charter schools, and included a clip of Philadelphian Eugene DePasquale saying “Pennsylvania has the worst charter school laws in the nation.” A longtime reform campaigner, DePasquale was thrilled. “That 18-minute segment has probably done more than people could imagine.”
