Graffiti Pier, which juts into the Delaware River in Port Richmond, has always technically been private property. But on Tuesday, Philly Police announced they plan to actually enforce no-trespassing laws there, according to a PMN report. Reasons cited for the change include an increase in tourist visits (thanks, Instagram) and a surge in "illicit activity." Whether the new policy is effective remains to be seen. For now, here’s proof of the spot’s visual beauty in 15 killer Instagrams.
Real estate power couple Greg and Danielle Parker are eager to reinvest in the neighborhood where they grew up. This is the same couple who bought out several movie theaters so North Philly kids could see Black Panther. This time, they paid $140,000 to buy a Sharswood rowhome that had been transformed into a hub for community programming and center for neighborhood kids. At the last minute, the Parkers ponied up the needed cash to save the property from a landlord insistent on selling — and she plans to help remodel it, too.
If you’re running as a Republican in Philly, you need a sense of humor. At least T. Milton Street has that going for him. The peripatetic onetime-politician, whose brother was Philly's former mayor and whose nephew is a current state senator, hasn't held office since the '80s. But that hasn't stopped him from throwing his hat into the ring to represent Pa.'s 181st Congressional District. And, since he's the only candidate who entered as a Republican, Street's name will not only be on the May 15 ballot, it'll also be presented to voters in November. He threw his first press conference at a North Philly church Monday night, where he put forth his plan to fund Philly schools via electronic bingo.
