BYE, JIMMY: ROLLINS HEADS TO DODGERS IN SURPRISE TRADE
Jimmy Rollins is the best shortstop in Phillies history, so it was a bit of a shock when news broke yesterday that he’s headed to the Dodgers in a trade. What’d the Phillies get for the 36-year-old Rollins? A pair of minor-league pitchers. Oh, and it wasn’t the only trade yesterday; the Phils also traded reliever Antonio Bastardo for a minor-leaguer. It’s been just six years since the Phillies won the World Series, and Rollins was a key piece of that puzzle — but now the team is rebuilding. So, in other words, they’re gonna suck… For a while.
PHILLY’S MOST CONTROVERSIAL CONGRESSMAN, EXPLAINED
Chaka Fattah is a Congressman from Philadelphia known more for his longevity and questionable practices than any major accomplishments, despite being in politics for over 30 years. His name recognition here in Philadelphia, plus the overwhelming Democratic support in his 2nd District almost assure him re-election in 2016 — unless he’s facing a federal indictment, a possibility given the campaign finance controversy swirling around him since August… and he’s no stranger to controversy. Billy Penn broke down what you need to know about Fattah and the allegations against him.
A GIANT CIGARETTE BUTT WILL BE AT CITY HALL ON FRIDAY
Here’s a way to get people to quit smoking: Put a giant cigarette butt in the middle of a public space. The space? Dilworth Park, where ice skaters can peacefully circle as a giant cancer stick replica hangs out nearby. The instigator? GlaxoSmithKline, which is promoting Nicorette gum and Nicoderm patches. Also, somewhat inexplicably, someone from “Dancing With The Stars” will be there. Philly Mag has the details.

THE MUMMERS ARE CROWDFUNDING?
Golden Sunrise is, according to their blog, the last remaining Fancy Club in the Mummers. And in order to survive, they’ve taken to the web to ask for your support. What are they after? Some $28,000 — it’s broken down here. They say it’s all about maintaining Philly’s heritage, but it could also be the chance to dress up weird and get super drunk. Either way! They need your help.
