KENNEY & DNC OFFICIALS: DON’T LEAVE DURING THE CONVENTION, GUYS!
Did you take a #popecation? Mayor Jim Kenney is hoping you won’t make similar plans during the DNC. “We don’t want people to go to the Jersey Shore or the mountains. Be a part of this,” the mayor said at a presser yesterday. Last year during the papal visit, city streets were so empty that comparisons were made to The Walking Dead, as you may recall. “We need Philadelphia residents and people who work downtown to sell Philadelphia,” Kenney said. “Stay home and show off.”
WATCH: VIDEO OF WHEN THE SEPTA BUS MET THE CYCLIST
Did the SEPTA bus driver give a cyclist who blocked the bus enough room as he passed him last Wednesday? You be the judge. SEPTA released a 30-minute video to Billy Penn, including several minutes of the bus driver’s route beforehand, the moments when the bus passed the cyclist and about 20 minutes of the man standing in the way of the bus on Locust Street. Watch, and decide.
Q&A: V.C. JOSH KOPELMAN ON THE FUTURE OF PHILLY’S NEWSPAPERS
Josh Kopelman runs First Round Capital. The venture capitalist has founded companies, and invested in many more (including Uber, which you’ve probably used, and LinkedIn, which you probably can’t avoid). Now he’s the chairman of the board of the Philadelphia Media Network, taking the reins from former owner H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest for the company that oversees the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News, Philly.com and the new nonprofit Institute for Journalism in New Media. Here’s what he told us.
The Design Advocacy Group hosts Paul Steinke, former Reading Terminal Market manager and new director of the Philly Preservation Alliance, to talk about the state of things today and where to go from here. (Of note: Bart Blatstein was supposed to speak, but apparently cancelled.)

WHERE TO WATCH COPA AMERICA AND EAT INTERNATIONAL FOOD
It’s almost Copa América time. Now, as you may recall, we just had one last year. (Poor Messi, but yay Chile!) This special centennial edition will bring South America’s continental soccer championship to North America for the very first time. The tournament is otherwise keeping to its normal, every-fourth-year scheduling— this will be an extra, one-off chance to win the trophy. Here’s our delicious guide to the best restaurants in which you can watch the Copa (and, of course, eat).
