We've come to the end of an era. Today is the last day for Little Pete's. The iconic diner at 17th and Chancellor will be replaced by a hotel, and it's going out in style with a massive block party. Philadelphians have collected many stories and made many memories there over the years, and some of them recently shared those experiences with us. What better way to say goodbye than to relive some of those moments?
So you made it down the shore this weekend. Great! You fought your way through 800,000 other cars (or maybe wisely took the train to AC) and planted yourself on the beach for a couple days. All that's left to do is get back. Hopefully you took our advice for how to get down. Now, reverse them. Godspeed.
There was such a thing as "Miss Mermaid" in the '60s and she used the "key to the Atlantic Ocean" to kick off the official start to summer every year. That tradition may have died, but we at least have photographic evidence of it — and a bunch of other MDW traditions, celebrations and events in Philly. Check out these old photos.
