BATTLEGROUND PA: POLLS AND GOP ATTENTION POINT TO A CLOSE PRESIDENTIAL RACE
There’s one thing top Republicans and Hillary Clinton seem to actually agree on: Pennsylvania is in play for the general election. Though a Republican hasn’t won a presidential election in Pennsylvania since 1988, the latest polls show Donald Trump is surging in our state and the Republican party is confident it can make up for a serious voter registration gap and claim Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes. A Trump advisor even called Pennsylvania “the priority” for the candidate. Welcome to the new Pennsylvania: A swing state once again.
REVEALED: A WELDING FLAW CAUSED SEPTA’S REGIONAL RAIL PROBLEM
After weeks of mostly silence, Hyundai Rotem, the manufacturer of SEPTA’s problematic Silverline V car spoke up. And it wasn’t good. A spokesperson for for the company said the issue with cars’ beams was caused by a flawed weld that attaches to the beam. It could be the design of the weld or the weld itself. So, who’s fault was it? Well, the weld work was done by HiCorp, a Pennsylvania-based company. But Hyundai Rotem subcontracted HiCorp and had the responsibility to make sure everything was in order. Meanwhile, SEPTA announced it would replace, not repair, the failed equalizer beams on its fleet.

MEET THE DOC OFFERING FREE AND DISCOUNTED HEALING FOR ACTIVISTS
Dr. Damon Constantinides wanted to do something. Tragic incidents of police brutality had captured the nation’s attention, and he was no exception. He’d been to protests, but hitting demonstrations regularly was tough to juggle with a toddler at home. So Healing for Activists became that something. Constantinides, a licensed clinical social worker, put together a directory of local therapists who are willing to offer one-hour slots to Black Lives Matter activists at a reduced rate, or donate the time altogether. The list online now counts 17 Philadelphia-based therapists.
