THE SCHOOL DISTRICT STILL DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH TEACHERS
The Philadelphia School District is in better shape than last year when it comes to teaching vacancies but is still 84 short as the school year begins. Those vacancies mean thousands of students will have at least one class without a full-time teacher. Last year, the District had 118 vacancies at the start of the school year and 132 at the end. The improvement isn’t good enough for Councilwoman Helen Gym, who said, “It is simply unacceptable. It is a fundamental mission for the School District of Philadelphia to begin the school year with a teacher in every classroom. It is the most basic mission of the school.”
TRUMP IN PHILLY…AGAIN
Donald Trump with met with black community members near Broad and Spring Garden on Friday, and protests erupted. Evidently they weren’t enough to keep Trump away from Philly. He’s scheduled to appear at the Union League at 11 a.m. for an invitation-only event likely with some of the Philly-area’s most well-heeled Republicans.
Meanwhile, the presidential race in Pennsylvania is tightening and there’s a surprising group who could be supporting Trump: union members. Here’s why many could go against the usual voting patterns and their Democrat-endorsing leadership and vote Trump.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EAGLES’ SUPER BOWL ODDS, POST-BRADFORD TRADE
When Vegas sets their lines for win totals and Super Bowl odds, they can change with the twist of a knee, or the crack of a back. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL (not even the contracts) so it’s impossible to guess what will happen from week to week, let alone trade to blockbuster trade. That’s how the Eagles can go from 40-to-1 odds to 100-to-1. That’s how Dallas’ odds can nearly double. That’s how, going from Teddy Bridgewater to Sam Bradford, the Vikings’ odds of winning the Super Bowl can… stay exactly the same. Huh?!?!
RICO 101: LAW MADE FOR THE MOB IS USED TO PROSECUTE PHILLY POLS
RICO stands for the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. It was passed in 1970 to take down organized crime, but it has been used to target a wide range of organizations and individuals, including former Congressman Chaka Fattah. Here’s a breakdown of how RICO works and why it looks like the Feds could use it against John Dougherty and IBEW Local 98.
