INSTAGRAM OF THE DAY
It’s cold and rainy, but this pic of the El yesterday could have been taken from January through July — at least it doesn’t *look* cold. And bonus: On a day like today, doesn’t the sun make it feel warmer? Photo by Instagram user @jschieda.
LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN: OH HAI, NOR’EASTER
Go thank the Atlantic Ocean. According to AccuWeather, that’s why the stuff falling out of the sky will be cold and wet, and not cold and fluffy. Yes, it’s a Nor’easter, and yes, that means precip. But the ocean is keeping our part of the temps up enough, per everyone’s forecast, to mean rain in the Philly region. Albany, NY could get walloped with a foot of snow, so be thankful (yet again) that you’re here and not there.
PORNY EMAIL JUDGE STILL GETS $134,000 PER YEAR
Remember when Judge Seamus “Shay-Shay” McCaffery, who sits on Pennsylvania’s highest court, “retired” after news broke that state employees were passing around incredibly pornographic and offensive emails — and he was one of them? Well, let’s just say he’s not hurting. The Associated Press dug into his pension, and found the Philly-based former jurist is pulling down some sweet cash — to the tune of $11,000 per month, or $134K a year. Not a bad haul of taxpayer dollars in retirement.
FOR THE 1ST TIME IN 5 YEARS, PENN HAS A RHODES SCHOLAR
The University of Pennsylvania is sending someone to Oxford University, to study on a Rhodes Scholarship. And it’s the Ivy’s first such scholar in half a decade. But, as the Daily Pennsylvanian notes, many on campus thought they’d missed during the announcement of the 22 Americans named to the program. Then came word of Zimbabwe native Rutendo Chigora, a former Penn Mock Trial president who also worked on the Clinton Global Initiative and started ZW Connect, a “grassroots effort to create economic opportunities” for people in her native land.
