The School District of Philadelphia has 220 schools, 134,000 students and ... eight librarians, the Inquirer reports. Many schools rely on teacher and volunteers, or just don't have a library at all. The librarian at Masterman, one of the city's best high schools, teaches 12 classes a week. Currently in Philly public schools, two high schools and six elementaries have certified, full-time librarians.
