Back in the fall, we asked the National Weather Service what we should expect this winter. The advice at the time? “We have to see what happens in January. Things can always change in January.” This is how winter weather predictions are made.
The School District of Philadelphia has 220 schools, 134,000 students and ... eight librarians, the Inquirer reports. Many schools rely on teacher and volunteers, or just don't have a library at all. The librarian at Masterman, one of the city's best high schools, teaches 12 classes a week. Currently in Philly public schools, two high schools and six elementaries have certified, full-time librarians.
If you thought yesterday's Sixers-Nets game was just another meaningless regular-season game, think again. We're now not only not the worst team in the NBA, but almost the fifth-worst team in the NBA. Progress! There aren’t many beer festivals of this kind in the US, but there's apparently plenty of demand. The “Metal & Beer Fest” coming to the Fillmore in April is already more than half sold out, and the two-day Decibel Magazine event will feature 12 bands and 17 breweries. Here's how this whole thing came together and why it's happening in Philly.
