LATKEPALOOZA: PHILLY’S BEST RESTAURANTS RIFF ON HANUKKAH’S POTATO PANCAKE
Christmas celebrations tend toward the sweet: Cookies, candy canes and hot buttered rum. But the savory latkes traditionally served at Hanukkah might outdo them all in sheer addictive deliciousness. For the last 13 years, top Philly chefs have come together at the Gershman Y to put up their best takes on the traditional potato pancake (there’s even a Greek “spanolatke”). Here’s how the event came to be, what it means to those participating, and how to get (cheap!) tix.
A GIFT GUIDE YOU CAN USE: WHERE TO FIND PHILLY PRESENTS FOR CHEAP
There are only so many scarves you can buy your mom and so many ties you can gift to your dad every holiday season. And your friends are probably sick of those gift cards. If you’re trying a bit harder this winter, why not a Philly-style gift? It’s perfect, both for someone who lives in the region and loves it or a long-lost Philadelphian now sadly living elsewhere. And most importantly, you can do it for cheap.
LAST CHANCE TO VOTE IN ROUND 2 OF THE ULTIMATE HOLIDAY COOKIE BRACKET
Holidays are all about tradition, and that love of classics showed in your votes for during the first round of the the Billy Penn Ultimate Philly Holiday Cookie Bracket. In most categories, old favorites prevailed, but in a few cases, however, hip new hotness won out. Now we’re down to the last day of Round 2, where you get to decide who advances to the quarterfinals. Go support your faves — do it for deliciousness’ sake.
