A note from the editor…
We could not be more excited for this big Billy Penn news: Danya Henninger, the Zagat Philly editor with deep experience writing about restaurants, food and drink in Philadelphia, is signing on as our first Weekend Editor.
She’ll contribute regular coverage of where to go and what to do in Philadelphia, including two new newsletters we’re looking to launch in the next few weeks. Her first day is May 26.
“When I was a kid, I could never have imagined I’d work for a news startup — I wouldn’t have known what the term meant! But the way people get their news — and, by extension, the way society makes progress — is changing, and Billy Penn is about making sure it’s changing for the better,” Danya says. “I love Philly, and can’t wait to share all the great things going on here with a growing audience of digital readers. I’ve never been so excited to join a media company.”
Now, you’ve seen her byline on the site before. She’s already broken news on Billy Penn, from tracking down the meal that snagged the Democratic National Convention to word that the food trucks that regularly served The Porch at 30th Street were unceremoniously dumped from that location. She’s also gone to a Flyers game with some of the city’s best chefs, and kayaked down the Schuylkill in the name of beer.
Quite simply, she’s fantastic, and we at Billy Penn could not be more excited to see her byline more often on our site.
You’ve seen her byline and her photos all over: She’s a regular food and drink contributor to Philly.com, a columnist for Philly Beer Scene magazine, South Jersey restaurant critic for the Cherry Hill Courier-Post, restaurant reviewer for NJ Monthly and a freelance beer writer.
She has contributed to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Edible Philly, All About Beer, Draft and Craft Beer & Brewing. In 1997, she founded photo-video firm Imagic Digital with husband Mark Henninger. You can find her on Twitter at @phillydesign, which you should follow immediately.
