Billy Penn members include anyone that has made a donation to support our newsroom within the past 365 days. All donations are tax-deductible. Donate here to become a member.

A sustaining membership is an automatic donation via credit card that recurs monthly or annually. Sustaining members are the backbone of our operation, and allow us to make long-term financial plans.

Billy Penn doesn’t run very many opinion pieces, but when we do, it’s because it’s a topic we have covered with reporting and meets one of these criteria:

  • The author has lived experience with the subject
  • The author considered is considered an expert or authority on the subject
  • The author has some very unique voice to offer that hasn’t yet been heard

  • The piece directly relates to Philadelphia or Philly life
  • It is exclusive to Billy Penn — it will not show up on another local media outlet’s website or print pages
  • We reserve the right to lightly edit the op-ed, but will always show edits to the author (or submitter) before publishing
