Opinion essays and articles

๐Ÿ”น Does Billy Penn accept op-eds?

Billy Penn doesn’t run very many opinion pieces, but when we do, it’s because it’s a topic we have covered with reporting and meets one of these criteria:

  • The author has lived experience with the subject
  • The author considered is considered an expert or authority on the subject
  • The author has some very unique voice to offer that hasn’t yet been heard

๐Ÿ”น What other guidelines are there?

  • The piece directly relates to Philadelphia or Philly life
  • It is exclusive to Billy Penn — it will not show up on another local media outlet’s website or print pages
  • We reserve the right to lightly edit the op-ed, but will always show edits to the author (or submitter) before publishing

๐Ÿ”น Where should I send my pitch?

Send all opinion pitches to editor Danya Henninger at danya@billypenn.com.
