While it’s safe to assume Philadelphia will back the Democratic Party nominee regardless of who it is, some Philadelphians are making it known who their preferred candidate is.
On Saturday, Jan. 30, supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders rallied at City Hall and took to the streets to show their neighbors that they are “feeling the Bern.” As part of a national campaign, Bernie supporters have been organizing marches under the hashtag #MARCHFORBERNIE in cities across the country. While most of the marches took place the previous weekend, several northeastern demonstrations were postponed due to snow.
Several hundred people attended Philly’s march, which began and ended at City Hall. The march was police escorted, minimizing the obstruction to traffic.
The Iowa caucus is today, Feb. 1. Bernie Sanders and front-runner Hillary Clinton are neck and neck in recent Iowa polls.
