Seems sandwich lovers in Philadelphia are all on a similar wavelength: After thousands of votes were cast in Round 1 of the Ultimate Philly Sandwich Bracket, there were very few upsets. In fact, most of the contests weren’t even close.
As might be expected from reputation, DiNic’s pulled pork Italiano garnered the highest number of votes in total. The second-biggest vote-getter was also a classic — John’s Roast Pork — followed very closely by the city’s new darling, Federal Donuts. The only major upset came in the veggie category, where the No. 8 Blackbird cubano pretty much demolished No. 1 Fu-Wah tofu hoagie.
Lots of big decisions loom in Round 2. Will cult-fave Paesano’s be able to pull it out over John’s? How will old-school Italian Market spot Sarcone’s fare versus old-school Northeast favorite Fink’s? Put your clicks where your mouth is and help us decide.
(p.s. Stay tuned for details about when you can join us to taste some of the competitors in person.)

Philly, beyond the cheesesteak
We love a good steak — but that only scratches the surface of what Philly has to offer. Our nonprofit newsroom looks for stories that push past clichés to find those that are underexplored. Want to keep us around?
