Thanks to Open Data Philly, the Kenney administration today released a full dataset of the salaries and year-to-date overtime costs of city employees. There’s a lot to sort through, and we’re on that now — but in the meantime, here’s a few things to consider:
- Most people assume the mayor has the highest salary in the city. Not so — the data shows Mayor Jim Kenney clocks in at No. 4, behind two medical examiners and the police commissioner.
- 700 city employees earn six figures per year.
- 11 employees earn more than $200,000 per year.
- Police and firefighters rack up a lot of overtime. Overtime costs calculated for just the first three months of 2016 shows 21 people have racked up more than $20,000 in just overtime since the beginning of the year. Of that, 16 are in the police or fire departments.
- In the first quarter of 2016, the city of Philadelphia spent more than $49 million on overtime costs alone.
