Anti-Trump activists are prepared with a week’s worth of events, from workshops to demonstrations to dance parties, to protest the Republican Retreat in Philadelphia. The GOP and President Trump are making their way into the city today and will spend Wednesday through Friday at the Loews Hotel.
The primary demonstrations will take place around the hotel and will concern the planned repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania claims will put seniors, children, people with disabilities and working class families at risk of losing access to affordable healthcare.

Art Build for Trump’s Welcome Wagon
From Jan. 24 to Jan. 25 the Philly Coalition for REAL Justice will provide free art supplies and room at Lava space to create signs to greet Trump and the GOP for the Republican Retreat.
Planned Parenthood Action Forum
Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates is planning an “evening of critical discussion and planning to keep our communities safe in the face of multiple political threats.” The event will take place at 5:50 p.m. at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral.
At 7:30 p.m. activists will gather outside the Loews Hotel for a dance party. Glow sticks and flashlights are encouraged, as are straight allies who want to join in the dancing.
Get Mad, Then Get Elected: How to Win a Local Ward Election
At 8 p.m. Philadelphia 3.0 will have presenters go over how to run in and win a local ward election. The event will take place at Pipeline Philly.
Let’s End Gerrymandering
At 8 p.m. at Arch Street United Methodist Church, Fair Districts PA’s Carol Kuniholm will hold an open meeting to explain issues associated with gerrymandering and how to solve them.
Surround the Loews Hotel
On January 26, PA Home Care Workers and SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania will protest the GOP’s plan to repeal the Afforable Care Act by holding a workshop at 9:30 a.m. at the Holliday Inn at 1305 Walnut St. followed by a march to Thomas Paine Plaza at 11 a.m.
Surround the Loews Hotel/Perimeter
Several different groups that make up the Philadelphia Socialist Alternative will meet at Rittenhouse Square at 4 p.m. and march to the Loews Hotel security perimeter.
