Bruce Springsteen’s Dad Bod is hot. Before you start to argue: that was the name of the winning team at the October edition of Billy Penn Philly Quizzo.
Nearly 75 people came out to the gorgeous new Triple Bottom Brewing Co. space in the Spring Arts District for our monthly trivia night about all things Philadelphia.
Among happy hour pints and flights of housemade beer and platters of cheese and charcuterie from Di Bruno Bros., the crowd split into a dozen teams to compete for prizes. A $50 Triple bottom gift certificate was the blue ribbon prize, with a pair of branded pint glasses up for second place.
Competition was stiff, and teams got wildly different scores on the various rounds, which follow the themes of Philly Past, Philly Present and Philly Future.
Team Jason Segal Shut Down My Street, for example, only got 3 points in the first round, but killed it with 7 correct answers in the second. Team Finger Guns notched a perfect 8 in the third round, while Team Rent-A-Swag got half as many right. There was the table calling themselves the No. 1 Geezer Squad, which ended the night with a respectable 14.5, a couple points better than Team Stoop Kids, but one fewer than Team Beer Lovers.

We ended the night with a special photo-matching bonus round — shout out to Team Jack ‘OMG for a perfect score on that — and in the end Team Philamadelphians lost to Dad Bod by half a point.

Philly, beyond the cheesesteak
We love a good steak — but that only scratches the surface of what Philly has to offer. Our nonprofit newsroom looks for stories that push past clichés to find those that are underexplored. Want to keep us around?
