With a boxing gym as our cohost, it’s appropriate that this month’s edition of Billy Penn Philly Quizzo proved to be a tough one.
More than 55 people joined us on Zoom to play the live version of our monthly local news and history trivia quiz. Hosts Danya Henninger and Sakeenah Benjamin asked questions in our three categories of Philly Past, Philly Present, and Philly Future, as the 17 teams competed to get the most right answers and win the prize.
What was at stake? A free fitness training session for the whole team with Maleek Jackson at his eponymous gym on 2nd Street in Northern Liberties. Maleek also offered a second prize: four class passes for the best team name.
You could almost taste the fierceness of the competition between rounds, as DJ Bounce Gawd’s custom Philly Quizzo mix played and each group worked to complete their answer sheets.

At the end of the night, the BP crew decided to award best team name to “It’s my birthday, so I should win!” — hard to argue with that logic. On the question side, when all the scores were tallied, there was a three-way tie for first place. But after a tiebreaker, team Old Barney’s Navy walked away with the prize.
Now it’s your turn. Without using Google, can you beat their score of 19/24?
To play, pick your answers in the “Past,” “Present” and “Future” sections below, then click “Submit” and scroll up to hit “View Score” and see how you did. (That’s where you’ll see the correct answers, too.)
If the form below doesn’t work for you, take the quiz here.

Philly, beyond the cheesesteak
We love a good steak — but that only scratches the surface of what Philly has to offer. Our nonprofit newsroom looks for stories that push past clichés to find those that are underexplored. Want to keep us around?
