When it’s hot, Philly does trivia. We considered postponing the July edition of BP Quizzo, held last Thursday night, but instead ended up with our biggest crowd of the year.

As temps hovered in the upper 90s, Philadelphians large and small (there was at least one toddler), two-legged and four-legged (and at least one dog) gathered at Hawthornes Beer Cafe in Bella Vista. The outdoor patio seating is shaded in the evening, and a nice breeze relieved some of the heat.

You can check out a 360 tour of the scene here, courtesy of Google Maps photographer Mark Henninger. Tap inside the image and scroll around to see the evening light hitting rowhomes across South Philly, with Center City in the distance.

Armed with happy hour specials and snacks, attendees broke into 19 teams to test their local knowledge and vie for the prizes:

  • $40 gift card to Hawthornes for Top Score
  • $20 gift card to Hawthornes for Second Place Score
  • for Best Team Name, a swag bag with beer, hard seltzer, and pouch cocktails available via the bar’s Quick Sip delivery service

After co-hosts Sakeenah Benjamin and Danya Henninger finished the three rounds of Philly news and history questions, the leaderboard was close. The team that notched the top score — whose name “Jim Kenney’s Dad the [Redacted]” gives away the answer to one of the first round questions — came out on top with 19 out of 24 correct. Second place team “City Hall Suicide Watch,” who were just half a point behind. Best Team Name was awarded to the “Philly Rowhomies.”

Now it’s your turn to try your hand by taking the quiz below. Without using Google, can you beat the high score?

To play, pick your answers in the “Past,” “Present” and “Future” sections below, then click “Submit” and scroll up to hit “View Score” and see how you did. (That’s where you’ll see the correct answers, too.)

If the form below doesn’t work for you, take the quiz here.
