Republican Senate candidate David McCormick made a political faux pas on X, formerly Twitter, Wednesday, and members of Democrat incumbent Sen. Bob Casey’s team were quick to pounce on it before the post was deleted.

McCormick’s campaign account shared a clip from news station WLBT about an undocumented El Salvadoran immigrant who local police say shot at multiple moving vehicles, citing it in fresh criticism of his opponent’s stance on border security.

Problem is that the Philadelphia in the story was in Mississippi, more than 1,000 miles  south of the City of Brotherly Love. Casey’s communications director Maddy McDaniel pointed this out, grabbing and sharing a screenshot of the post before McCormick’s team had a chance to take it down.

A fellow Keystone State representative, U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, joined in the mockery with a repost saying, “Things like this tend to happen for people who live in Connecticut but run for the Senate in Pennsylvania.”

McCormick has previously lived in Connecticut, but he was born in Washington, Pa., was raised in Bloomsburg, Pa., and currently owns a house in Pittsburgh.

The McCormick campaign acknowledged its error Wednesday evening, but doubled down on its criticism of Casey with a post stating, “We made a mistake on our tweet, and that’s not nearly as bad as Bob Casey making a mistake leaving the border wide open.”
