We might (aka we damn well better) get the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, and hundreds took to the streets Monday night to protest the Ferguson grand jury decision. Also, a lawsuit over a game of catch… and snow that sounded like thunder? Oh Philly. Just for you, we recapped the top stories of the week and matched them with songs that fit the mood (Spotify playlist at the bottom).
“Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better,” Ethel Merman and Howard Keel
Philadelphia was named a finalist for the 2016 Democratic National Convention with Brooklyn and Columbus, Ohio. Now it’s time to close this contest. Let’s go Philly!

“The Sound of Silence,” Simon and Garfunkel
Bill Cosby continues to say little regarding the resurgence of sexual assault allegations against him. UMass-Amherst, which granted him an honorary doctorate, removed Cosby from a fundraising position this week. Meanwhile here in Philadelphia, his hometown, letting go of Cosby is not nearly as easy.

“Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels),” Arcade Fire
We indexed 16 of Philadelphia’s most prominent neighborhoods. Check yours out!

“What’s Going On,” Marvin Gaye
Monday night, after a St. Louis County grand jury chose not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown, hundreds protested in Philadelphia. They went from City Hall to South Street to I-95, protesting peacefully and with passion. Philly was featured nationally for its peaceful protests.

“Lightning Crashes,” Live
Thunder Snow?! WTF was going on Wednesday in Philly?

“Come Clean,” Hilary Duff
Darrell Clarke, we know what you’re doing. The councilman who remains mum as to whether he’ll run for mayor has been meeting with a bigwig, out-of-town strategist. Come clean, Clarke. It’ll feel much better.

“We Can’t Stop,” Miley Cyrus
Oh, he’s just being Corby! In this edition of Tom Corbett’s weekly reminder that he’s still governor and he’ll do whatever he wants for the next two months: If they send me something privatizing liquor stores, Corby said, “they’d probably get my signature.” Can’t argue with that, though.

“Can’t Fight This Feeling,” REO Speedwagon

The cabs are starting to realize things aren’t what they used to be. They’re starting to give in. Those taxi medallions that shot up in value to nearly $500K? They weren’t selling them because of UberX. Now they’ve been reduced in price to $350,000.

“Hardball,” Lil’ Bow Wow feat. Lil’ Zane, Lil’ Wayne and Sammie
Somehow, not everybody loves our Taney Dragons. A New Jersey couple sued the Taney Youth Baseball Association because one of them was hit in the face by a baseball while some little leaguers played catch before a game this summer.

“Friday,” Rebecca Black
This terrible (OK, kind of awesome in a weird way) song about Fridays is on this list to remind you all of how terrible Black Friday is. Don’t shop today. DON’T DO IT.

Philly, beyond the cheesesteak
We love a good steak — but that only scratches the surface of what Philly has to offer. Our nonprofit newsroom looks for stories that push past clichés to find those that are underexplored. Want to keep us around?
