“We are back,” Zitner’s triumphantly posted to Instagram yesterday.

Last Easter, Philly’s beloved chocolate eggs were suspiciously missing from the shelves. Billy Penn checked Acme, Giant, Wawa and Target to no avail. There were no Butter Krak Eggs, no Peanut Butter Eggs, no Coconut Cream Eggs — nothing.

“I’ve tried my hardest not to be here,” CEO and President of Zitner’s Candy, Evan Prochniak told BP at the time. “But just, you know — timing, timing, timing.”

Fortunately, the Zitner’s shortage is coming to an end. After facing unexpected hurdles during their move to a new factory location, the company is back up and running, producing candy eggs in Hatfield, Montgomery County.

“We are really humming now,” Prochniak told the Inquirer’s Michael Klein. “There were a lot of little odds and ends that I tweaked, and we’re just cranking that candy out.”

Despite setbacks, Prochniak was confident the company would get through the hardship last spring.

“Zitner’s is a brand that will go on because people want it,” he said. “The company’s over 100 years old, and I’ve only been involved for 15 years. It’s definitely something that is important enough to survive just about anything.”

According to the Inquirer, the company is shipping Zitner’s eggs to Acme and Weis Markets in early December and to ShopRite in January.
