Johnson’s duties over the next year will be to contribute reporting resources to the Solutions Journalism Network’s Philadelphia project, a 16-organization group covering prisoner reentry and recidivism in Philadelphia.
The position, funded through the SJN, allows Billy Penn to join a collaborative that already includes the Philadelphia Media Network, Philadelphia Magazine, WHYY, Next City, Technically Philly and more outlets.
“We’re excited at the opportunity to contribute to such an interesting and important project, and bring Peak’s unique skills to bear on this effort,” said Chris Krewson, the editor of Billy Penn. “We can’t wait for him to start.”
“I’m really excited and appreciative to have the opportunity to work with the awesome journalists here at Billy Penn. Ever since graduating from Temple University just a few years ago, it’s been challenging to find something steady in journalism,” Johnson said. “I cannot wait to begin telling good stories for and about my native Philadelphia.”
Johnson’s first day at Billy Penn is Monday, Feb. 6.
