Ok, in the light of global posterity, it’s not quite up there with what happened on July 4, 1776. It’s not often that a city gets to help birth a nation.
But for people who live here, the people who are from the Philadelphia of today? The Eagles victory parade was huge.
This city is no stranger to big processions that make their way up Broad Street — ones that include plenty of partying — thanks to the annual Mummers Parade. But this was something new.
Philly had never before won the Super Bowl, so this was a party more than half a century in the making.

No, there weren’t enough bathrooms. No, many of the food and t-shirt vendors doing brisk business along the route weren’t licensed. And yes, there’s a lot of trash to clean up after. But overall, the parade was a success.
Philadelphians came out in huge numbers. They came with loved ones, they came with family, they came ready to cheer a team that embodied the city’s underdog spirit — and its will to fight to the top, against all odds.
