A South Jersey animal shelter went viral last month with its “neuter your ex” promotion. For a $50 donation, Homeward Bound Pet Adoption in Blackwood will name a feral cat after your ex, spay or neuter it, and then release it back into the wild.

As of earlier this week, more than 250 names had been sent in from across the US, the United Kingdom, and as far as Australia. “Gaslight Guy” and “Insurance Joe” are among the names that have been submitted.

Now, more shelters are looking to capitalize on ex-lover trend. Here’s a look at some of your options to get payback. There’s also options for those who have fully moved on and want to help animals while demonstrating the depths of your love for someone new.

Morris Animal Refuge: Line the litter box with your ex

As the The J. Geils Band once said, sometimes, love stinks.

Morris Animal Refuge is hoping to make a big stink with its offer to line the litter boxes at its shelter on Lombard St. with the names of your ex. For a $5 donation, you can get the name of “a crappy ex, a terrible boss, or a frenemy” placed where the shelter cats do their business.

They’re accepting donations via Venmo or on their website.

Finding Shelter: Crappy ex? Put that stinker behind you

Norristown’s Finding Shelter offers jilted lovers the opportunity to give your ex the “crappiest valentine” ever.

For a $10 donation, the group will write your ex’s name on a dog poo bag to help “put your past behind you.” Photos of the bags and video of them being tossed into the “poo bin” will be posted on their social media channels.

Donations will be used to pay the cost of medical care, food, and supplies for dogs in Finding Shelter’s care. They’re accepting donations on their website.

Project Meow: Love or hate, your pick

Project Meow in West Philly launched a two-part offer earlier this month. For the lovers out there, you can make a $50 donation to name a rescue cat after your significant other. They recommend informing them “over candlelight that you have both honored them in the best way possible.”

The second option is for those wanting to honor (or more realistically, dishonor) their least favorite ex. For a $100 donation, the shelter will pick a “badly-behaved, scratchy kitten who bites and poops where it’s not supposed to” and give it your ex’s name.

Project Meow is accepting donations via PayPal or Venmo: @ProjectMEOW.

ACCT Philly: Forget “situationships,” just commit already

If you’re still searching for a Valentine’s date this year, maybe you’d be happy hanging with a furry friend from ACCT Philly.

The group says their “adoptees are just like you – tired of situationships and ready for a real commitment.”

ACCT is featuring its “most eligible” candidates online. All adoptees will come with a special relationship “starter bag.” They say “whether you’re looking for a cuddly cat or an energetic dog, we’ve got the perfect Valentine’s match for you.”
