Ethics Board aims to codify rule changes amid Jeff Brown lawsuit

The city’s Board of Ethics is moving to tighten its restrictions on spending by the big-money political action committees called super PACs. The move follows a loss in court over alleged campaign finance improprieties by candidate Jeff Brown during last year’s mayoral election. 

The Ethics Board also seeks to throw out a new lawsuit against it by Brown and a dark-money super PAC that spent heavily to support his run. BP’s Meir Rinde breaks down what to know about the legal battle and long-term implications. Continue reading…

A meal service for expectant parents that’s a “one woman” show

Lessons from her own postpartum experience before and during the pandemic led former farmer Victoria Lindchan to create Earthside Provisions, a meal pick-up/delivery service that provides nourishment for “anybody on a journey,” including new and expecting parents or those just moving towards a healthier diet. 

The “one-woman-momma-show” features a menu inspired by traditional Chinese medicine, ayurveda, and Lindchan’s background in farming. BP’s Ali Mohsen visited Lindchan’s East Falls kitchen for a peek into what’s next for her and Earthside. Continue reading…

Mayor Parker will speak at the police academy graduation ceremony at Temple on Friday morning (10 a.m.) before speaking at the Women on the Move Celebration at City Hall honoring more than 30 women as part of Women’s History Month. (12 p.m.)

Then, she speaks at another graduation ceremony for biomedical technician training at Iovance Biotherapeutics at the Navy Yard. (1 p.m.)
