The Wells Fargo Center era is coming to an end, in name at least.
The banking and financial services company announced that it will not renew its naming rights deal for the current home of the Flyers, Sixers and the Wings, leaving the South Philly arena in need of a new name when the current contract expires in August 2025.
Given the previous names the arena has had since it replaced the Spectrum in 1996 — CoreStates, First Union and Wachovia — it’s a safe bet that the arena owners Comcast Spectacor will find a replacement with a similarly commercial moniker.
We thought you, our readers, might have something to say about what the new name could be.
Should it celebrate a beloved Philly business that isn’t a corporate behemoth on the Fortune 500? Should it have a name that highlights the city’s unique culture and heritage? Maybe it could honor one of the sporting legends that graced the floor of the venue? Or should internet chaos reign and let the most popular name win out, no matter how silly it is (looking at you, Birdy McBirdface)?
With a year to go before the official name change, there’s no time like the present to give Comcast Spectacor some ideas.
So have at it, BP readers! Chime in with your ideas in our suggestion box below.
