The Black Sheep Pub in Rittenhouse, a popular soccer-watching venue and home to Philly’s official supporters’ club for English Premier League team Manchester United, has had to close its doors indefinitely after multiple fires on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Thankfully, the Irish pub reported no injuries, but it will be out of commission ahead of a summer when it would have been a popular gathering point for the FIFA World Cup.
The Black Sheep plans to “come back even stronger,” with owner James Stephens telling the Philly Voice that the estimated return will be two months.
Members of the MUFC Philadelphia are helping to make sure that happens by setting up a GoFundMe page for the rebuild.
“Every donation will go directly toward supporting the staff, covering renovation costs, and helping to reopen the doors as soon as possible,” the fundraiser’s description reads.
By Thursday evening, the effort had surpassed its initial goal of $6,500, and reached over $21,000 of its $28,000 goal.
It has even caught some national attention from Men in Blazers host Roger Bennett, who posted a video supporting the cause.
“Philadephia football needs the Black Sheep,” Bennett, who recently toured in Philly, said.
