A staff member since before our website launched, MJ Slaby joined The Incline in September 2016.
Since then, she dove into news about Pittsburgh’s tech scene — chronicling Mayor Bill Peduto’s relationship with Uber, mapping where companies are testing self-driving cars, and following the creation of Protohaven and its goals for more inclusive maker spaces. In September 2017, she partnered with HuffPost’s Listen to America tour to write about what self-driving cars mean for local jobs.
She’s also covered gender gaps in local politics, launched The Incline’s wildly popular Ultimate PIttsburgh Fish Fry Bracket, and revamped our Peculiar Pittsburgh series, where we'll investigate your questions about Pittsburgh.
MJ received Pittsburgh Black Media Federation's 2018 Vann Award for Online Business News.
Prior to working at The Incline, MJ covered education at the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel, extensively reporting on a sexual assault lawsuit against the University of Tennessee. An Indiana University alumna, she also worked at The Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind.; and the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier.
MJ is a board member of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Pittsburgh Pro chapter. She's also the owner of a sassy tabby cat named Jordy and lives in the Mexican War Streets.
