PECO workers plan strike on Fourth of July 

PECO workers will walk off the job on the Fourth of July if no contract agreement is reached, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 614 announced on Thursday.

Philly World Cup: Côte d’Ivoire’s historic win

Philadelphia’s fourth FIFA World Cup game was its third-straight sellout, with the Ivory Coast cruising to a 2-0 win over Curaçao, moving the African nation into the knockout rounds for the first time in its three tournaments.

Mayor Parker yesterday visited the new joint operations center for SEPTA, PPD and the city at Jefferson Center (1101 Market Street) and touted the coordinated City response behind a 68,000-plus-person FIFA World Cup match, the FIFA Fan Festival™, Wawa Welcome America, and growing activity in neighborhoods and businesses across Philadelphia.

Today, Parker delivers the keynote address at a Lifetime Community Impact Tribute honoring her former political mentor, Marian B. Tasco, and Dr. Adrienne Jacoby for their leadership and lasting contributions to James R. Lowell Elementary School. (1 p.m.)
