To state the obvious: Philadelphia is really good at tailgating. No national publication has actually come out and said we’re the best, but that’s probably because people elsewhere are scared of Eagles fans’ legendary intensity.

This city definitely does it better than they do in Minnesota. During the runup to Super Bowl LII, there was a lot of disappointment when it came out U.S. Bank Stadium wouldn’t allow outdoor parties of the kind we throw in South Philly.

Expect this week’s celebrations to be more hype than most. On Sunday, Nov. 17, the Birds are hosting the Patriots, aka their SB52 rivals, and even squeaky clean New England quarterback Tom Brady has been talking trash.

Billy Penn is not gonna miss out on the fun. Along with our partners from WHYY, PlanPhilly and Fairmount’s Thirsty Dice, we’re bringing back the Gameadelphia tent. (You may remember it from Philly Free Streets.)

If you’re down at the sports complex, you’ll definitely want to stop by our everyman soiree, which’ll be set up from 12 to 5 p.m.

We’ll have board games galore, plus much more. Stop by and try your hand at our Tumblin’ Dice set-up — if you top the running leaderboard, we’ll give you a social media shout out and prize. You can also win swag and t-shirts by spinning our wheel, and there’ll be cornhole, giant Jenga and giant Connect 4 to pass the time before kickoff.

Plus, we’re giving out free dessert to complement the rest of your tailgate buffet.

Saxbys, the coffee company that helps college students learn real-life work skills as they earn college credit and make money, is graciously donating hot chocolate. Stop by to get a piping cup to warm your hands (what you spike it with it is up to you).

Perfect with hot cocoa will be some of the best sweet treats this city has to offer: Famous 4th Street Cookie Co. is donating cookies — and not just the standard chocolate chip. Come by early and you’ll get your choice of:

  • chocolate chip
  • oatmeal raisin
  • sugar cookies
  • snickerdoodle
  • ginger molasses
  • mint chocolate chip
  • white chocolate cranberry
  • double dark chocolate
  • white chocolate chip

Also, we’ll be handing out Dietz & Watson’s hunger-solving Dietz Nuts, the meat nut snack that was introduced with a highly amusing ad during the Super Bowl.

It all goes down this Sunday. RSVP on Facebook here or Eventbrite here so we know to expect you.

For what it’s worth, Boston doesn’t make a showing on the many onlinebest NFL tailgatelists — so really, Philadelphia has already won.
