New Philly spot combines reality show and restaurant under one roof

Recipe Philly hosted a reality show competition across the region, aiming to highlight local culinary talent. Its opening gives emerging chefs the spotlight.

Slavery commiseration planned at Philly’s President’s House site

This week, members of the Avenging the Ancestors Coalition will gather at the President’s House site on Independence Mall for the group’s 24th annual Slavery Commiseration.

The event Tuesday at 4 p.m. takes on new fervor this year following the fight over the Independence Mall exhibit documenting the lives of nine enslaved people in Philly.

The date marks the August 25, 1619 anniversary of the first documented enslaved Africans arriving in America when it was still a British colony. Continued reading…
