Philly’s best parks are a SEPTA ride away

Mural Arts Philadelphia’s “Getting to Green: Routes to Roots” project has updated its free hand-painted map of ways to reach local green spaces by public transportation, and has begun rolling it out to commuters.

The project’s new map has more than tripled the number of parks listed and also added an adventure card deck to help inform and inspire Philadelphians about the many parks they can access. Continue reading…

These Philly Fringe shows focus on veterans stories

“Not Without Her Stories” and Vietnam War-based “Waiting for Westy” are two veteran-centric plays in this year’s Fringe, the 350-plus show extravaganza running Sept. 8-27.

At a time when American military leaders are busy testing for testosterone, “Not Without Her Stories: Her Service Comes With A Sacrifice Too,” aims to make sure women like Sgt. Nicole Amor, who died in a drone attack in Kuwait on March 1, are not forgotten.

“Waiting for Westy” involves Vietnam vets who hang out at the Doyle-Gerszewski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8051 clubhouse on Front Street in South Philadelphia. Continue reading…
